PUBLIC EDUCATION ABOUT ASSISTED SUICIDE

Me speaking to ALIES
Last week I spoke to a public forum about the perils assisted suicide to vulnerable populations and to Canada's collective conscience and future. The event was sponsored by the Alberta Life Issues Educational Society (ALIES).

Their website (http://www.alies.ca/)    describes their organization this way:

Alberta Life Issues Educational Society (ALIES) is a non-profit organization and a federally registered charity that operates in the province of Alberta. ALIES gathers, develops and distributes information on a broad range of life issues. These include abortion, euthanasia, reproductive technologies, pregnancy & fetal development, birth control and human sexuality. ALIES is a member of LifeCanada, a national educational pro-life group.

The room where ALIES held the forum was packed with people concerned about the direction Canada may take on this issue -- as the nation's Supreme Court deliberates on Canada's law against assisted suicide.

It is important that pro-Life organizations across Canada and America continue their efforts to educate their communities in how modern pain management and palliative care techniques make assisted suicide unnecessary to eliminate pain. Legitimate end of life care must never include euthanasia or assisted suicide.

Do not grow weary or defeated of advocating for the sanctity of human life even in the face of rising cultural acceptance of euthanasia and assisted suicide. We must speak tirelessly against the killing of the weak and vulnerable, the disabled and incurably sick. -- Mark
