HEART OF A FATHER

My son Dean
My last post was about my father. He was a dad par excellence. He instilled into me a love of fatherhood.

Last evening my son had my wife and me, his brother-in-law, and his father-in-law over to his house for a barbecue. While sitting around a fire pit, I realized I was surrounded by good, no, great fathers -- men who love being husbands and fathers. They love their children with a father's adoring heart and are active in their children's lives. Although my daughter could not be present last night, she too is also married to a man who is a wonderful husband and father.

They are all men of good natures who are tender with their babies and have nurtured them throughout their growing years with a father's adoring heart.

Not all children have such blessings. Society has a crisis of fatherless children. Children need their dads and they suffer without them. So does society.

I have posted below Eric Clapton's song "My Father's Eyes"
Eric Clapton
because it hints at the sadness of not knowing one's father. In 1985, Clapton told his biographer, "I never knew my father. And I realized that the closest I ever came to looking into my father's eyes was when I looked into my son's eyes." Sadly Eric Clapton lost his son Conor (4) in a tragic accident in 1991. Such sorrow! Later he wrote the moving and heartrending tribute to his son "Tears In Heaven".

Children need their father's love. A genuine father's heart needs his children to love.
